Description

Here's an interesting group of three interacting galaxies at about 150 million light years distant in the constellation of Ursa Major. Looking left to right we have NGC 3995, NGC 3994 and NGC 3991.

NGC 3991 is a strange looking, very elongated little galaxy and while NGC 3995 and NGC 3991 are clearly distorted through interaction NGC 3994 appears to be relatively unscathed.

Imaged in the middle of May, 90 minutes total exposure in 120 sec sub exposures. No filtration except IR blocking.

NGC 3991 is 1.2' x 0.3', magnitude 13.8 and is irregular; NGC 3994 is 1.1' x 0.7', magnitude 12.9 and is a peculiar lenticular seyfert galaxy; NGC 3995 is 2.8' x 1.1', magnitude 12.9 and is a magellanic spiral galaxy.
